There are mainly pitfalls along the road of music production; most of these holes can be avoid if the mixing beginner has a few music production basics to help them at the start. Once a person that is new to music production knows the basics and knows the golden rules their learning process and overall education in this field will be at a far greater level than those who jump straight in without knowing or reading anything. Here are some helpful tips:
Always back up all files that are needed in you mix - before you sit down to start a mix, make sure you have all your audio files and arrangement files saved and backed up on something away from your computer. Be that an external drive, DVD/CD, memory stick or even online. Anything could happen, such as a virus infection, hard drive melt down or something else infinitely random.
Mix within a peaceful environment - You cannot do any of the music production basics let alone mix if there is excessive noise going on around you. Even while using headphones it is not good as it is distracting. You do not need extreme silence, although that would be nice. Just all other noise needs to be in the background and not breaking your concentration. Never ever turn speakers up above a comfortable listening level to drown out or counter noise interfering with your ability to mix competently.
Listen though a track before mixing and write ideas down - I always listen through a track I am about to mix and write down ideas I have for the mixing direction. The inspiration could come from specific vocals/words or just a feeling/idea I thought up in that moment of listening; it is easy to put your ideas into practise once you know the music production basics. It is always good to have an idea or direction of how you want the track to go. At this stage an idea would probably be formed anyway. When listening to the track for ideas wait at least 24 hours, or, if you are like me and/or you have time on your hands wait longer and listen to it as fresh and forgetful as you can and base your mixing idea on the first impressions you get.

The music industry has changed and now there is room for anyone to put together hot beatmaker beats and break into the business. In the past you would have needed to study music production for years and have a bankroll of cash to even step foot into a studio to make beats. But today, thanks to the Internet, anyone can mix real professional hip-hop and rap beats and download them for sale to others or add them to vocals or other instruments to promote their own talents.
The turning point when the music industry opened its doors to the average person arguably came with the introduction of beatmaker software. If you listen to music today, most of the instrumentals are created in a studio without live instruments. The instrumental beats are laid down and organized using a sequencer.
To get use of this high-tech equipment in the past you would have needed to study the methods of producing music and also know someone just to get your foot in the door. Internet beat making software changed that.
Now, you can literally log into a site, and be mixing beats in less than 3 minutes. You can then take the hip hop or rap beat and download it as an MP3. And believe me, if you can point and click and have at least an elementary education you can make beats using this type of software.
Look, no one who is just starting out can invest thousands of dollars in equipment or instruments. All you need to get started is a computer and some creative talent and you will be producing beats just like you hear on the radio.
What could you do with these beats? Well, if you perform you can use these beatmaker beats to give your music an original edge - your signature sound. If you are not a performer and just love mixing the beats, you can sell these beats to others and work your way into the business from that angle.
It is a new day in music and with the right beats you can take your talent to the next level.

If you're reading this you're probably interested in audio mixing and music production software like I am.
Over the years, I've spent thousands of dollars on digital music production equipment -- keyboards, DAW's, synthesizers -- you name it. So when a friend of mine told me recently that some of the new music production software products now available online can give professional audio production results and is inexpensive and easy to learn, I just didn't believe it.
But I got a chance to check some of this software out. And I was wrong. Just goes to show how far music technology has come.
So I thought I'd tell you a little about it.
Some of it is very inexpensive (at least for now) and will help you make good quality, sophisticated music. Now I can guess what you're probably thinking. I was thinking the same thing only a few days ago. Finding good music production software is one thing. Finding something you can learn easily, that can really take you somewhere, without some kind of a degree or certification in audio production... well, that's another thing altogether.
If you think that, you are of course quite right. It is another thing altogether.
Sure, we all know there are some fun programs around that are easy enough to play around with, but not the kind of audio production software for the seriously aspiring. You'd need to hand over a lot of money for a recording studio and learn how to use gobs of fancy equipment for that.
Or would you?
The truth of it is you may find some of this new music production software as surprising as I did, not to mention inspiring.
Okay, let me pretend to read your mind again. Maybe you're thinking you've heard this promise, or something like it, before. And maybe you're thinking if this music production software is inexpensive like I said and doesn't require extensive music production knowledge to get results, anything you would be able to create with it would be destined to sound amateurish.
A lot of the quality music production software solutions out there are rather expensive just to get started. And they do require extensive music production knowledge as well as special and costly studio recording equipment -- and, let's face it, a lot of the other stuff just isn't worth having.
Well, if amateurish is what you're thinking, get ready to be as wrong as I was. No, everything out there right now is not all good, but some of it has got everything you need for your sounds to sound awesome -- cool, clean, professional sounding beats that can and will transport you and your listeners into an auditory rapture.
Watch a few tutorials and you may find yourself making your own full throttle beats in about 15 minutes like I did. You can pick from different styles of music and from professionally mastered samples, in some cases more than you are likely to ever need. The possibilities are nearly endless. I'm telling you, some of the software currently on the market is easy to learn and very inexpensive.
Don't believe me? Fair enough. As I said at the start, I didn't believe it at first either. Fortunately, you don't have to take my word for it. You can go research it and evaluate it for yourself.
